The Sphinx

 The sphinx(or Phix) was a female monster with a the body of a lion and a head of a woman,eagle wings and some say a serpent headed tail. She was sent by the gods to plague the town of Thebus as punishment for some ancient crime. She prayed upon youths, devouring anyone who failed to solve the riddle.Kreon the Monarch of Thebes, offered the throne to anyone who could destroy her.Oidipous accepted the callenge, and solved the Sphinxs riddle, she cast herself off a mountainside in despair.
