Hades was the son of the titans, Cronus and Rhea. He was among the children of Cronus, to be swallowed by their father, and later thrown up. He was armed with the Cap of Darkness (aka invisibility), which he used to aid Zeus in the war against the Titans. After aiding brothers Zeus and Poseidon, he received the world of the dead, known as Underworld, as his domain. Hades was the god of dead, and ruled his world with more absolute power and authority than Zeus. He was a grim god, not an evil one. He was a greedy god who was greatly concerned with increasing his subjects. He was also the god of wealth, due to the precious metals mined from the earth. He had a helmet that made him invisible as well. Hades rarely left the Underworld. He desired a bride and begged his brother Zeus to grant him one of his daughters. Zeus offered him Persephone, the daughter of Demeter. HowHadesAltempsInv8584.jpgever, knowing that the goddess would resist the marraige, he assented to the forceful abduction of the girl. When Demeter found out, she was furious and caused a great dearth to fall upon the earth until her daughter was returned. Zeus was forced to concede to fetch Persephone forth from the underworld. But since Persephone tasted the pomegranate seed (fruit of the Underworld), Persephone was forced to live two-third of the year on earth with her mother and a third with him in the Underworld. The Underworld was a place where the souls of human find their resting places. In the deepest region called Tartarus, it was a place of punishment for mortal who committed the worse sins or crimes. It was also served as a prison for the Titans and other gods. Hades and Persephone weren't the only one to live in the Underworld. There were Thanatos (Death), the winged-brother Hypnos (Sleep), and Morpheus (Dream), who was the son of Hypnos.

In my personal opinion, I do not believe Hades is such a bad guy. He had no other choice but to rule the Underworld, and people automatically think of him as someone who is bad. As said in the text, 'He is a grim god, not an evil one.' which is very true. It got so bad that people didn't even speak his name in fear of something bad. The automatic assumtion that he would be a terrible person just because he is the God of the Underworld, is wrong. Of course, in movies they always make him seem like the bad guy which I don't understand. For example, in Hercules, he was the bad one that always caused the trouble and revenge. But they made him a little more comical, probably because it was a Disney movie. In the Clash of the Titans, he was also the bad guy. It's just in my opinion that I see him not evil, but grumpy and unsocial.
